About improving recognition of spontaneously uttered French city-names

چکیده
This paper deals with the recognition of French city-names over the telephone. This recognition task, critical in many applications, involves a 40,000 city-name vocabulary, ranging from short monosyllabic words to long official compoundnames. Data collected from a field experiment are analyzed, and several ways of improving speech recognition performance are investigated. This includes a careful checking of the pronunciation lexicon, the acceptation of shorter forms (common names), the adaptation of the acoustic models and the introduction of specific noise models as well as a few frequent words and expressions to facilitate out-of-vocabulary data rejection. Experiments show that all these techniques help improving the overall recognition performances and nicely combine together.

متن کاملA two-pass approach for handling out-of-vocabulary words in a large vocabulary recognition task
This paper addresses the problem of recognizing a vocabulary of over 50,000 city names in a telephone access spoken dialogue system. We adopt a two-stage framework in which only major cities are represented in the first stage lexicon. We rely on an unknown word model encoded as a phone loop to detect OOV city names (referred to as ‘rare city’ names). We use SpeM, a tool that can extract words a...

This paper describes a study in the purpose of annotation of event names in French texts. It presents a theoretical study about the notion of Event and defines the types of event names under study. It then presents related works about Events in NLP. Afterwards, we first use manually supervised lexicons that provide lists of nouns representing events, and demonstrate the limitations of lexicons ...

In this paper the automatic recognition of person names and geographical names uttered by native and non-native speakers is examined in an experimental set-up. The major aim was to raise our understanding of how well and under which circumstances previously proposed methods of multilingual pronunciation modeling and multilingual acoustic modeling contribute to a better name recognition in a cro...

Generating correct pronunciation of proper names remains one of the most difficult tasks in text-to-phoneme transcription. Although phonetic rules can be efficient in processing proper names of one language, foreign family names cannot be always correctly generated without additional pronunciation rules. The present study addresses the problem of pronunciation variants for French and foreign fa...
